By now, you likely know that changing your car’s oil is one of the most important ways you can take care of your vehicle. But not all types of engine oil are the same, which is why you’ll want to be sure you’re getting the right oil in your car during maintenance appointments.

Luckily for you, our team here at CMA's Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM of Lynchburg will always be careful to recommend only the best types of oil for your car.

Types of Oil

Drivers have more options for engine oil than ever, with the most common options being conventional, synthetic, and synthetic blends.

Conventional oil has been around for a long time and was the default oil option for most cars up until recent decades. Older cars might still take conventional oil while some classic cars may only be able to take conventional oil.

On the other hand, synthetic oil is formulated using a chemical process that creates a more uniform shape between the oil molecules. This results in superior performance at different temperature extremes along with slower breakdown over time. Most modern cars take synthetic oil and have longer intervals in between oil changes as a result.

Some oils are synthetic blends, which is simply a blend of synthetic and conventional oil that is less expensive than full synthetic while still offering some of the benefits of synthetic oil.
