Here at your Jeep® service center, our experience with everything from oil changes in a Jeep Wrangler to damaged parts in a Jeep Gladiator means we’re prepared to help you through most service issues. Today we’re going to tackle one of the biggest fears for many drivers: getting locked out of your car!
What To Do in Case of a Lockout
Finding yourself outside your locked Jeep SUV looking at your keys on the front seat is a terrible feeling. The good news is that with newer Jeep models, this is much less likely to happen – keyless entry means your vehicle will usually lock and unlock itself. But if you have an older vehicle or some bad luck, there’s still a lot you can do!
- Take a look around. Are you in a safe space? Is there anywhere nearby you can get tools to help you get into your vehicle, or wait for roadside assistance?
- Check all your doors. Sometimes, especially if you didn’t mean to lock your vehicle or lock your keys inside, you can find an unlocked door or even get in through the rear door.
- Make a phone call. Depending on the age of your Jeep SUV and your warranty plan, roadside assistance may be included, or you may have an independent service. You can also try and get in touch with a vehicle locksmith directly, or you can even call 911, especially if there are safety concerns.
- Find some tools. This is the last resort, but you can use tools to try and get into your vehicle. Coat hangers can often slide between the window and seal and be used to manually unlock. We don’t recommend this unless you are out of options, because you risk damaging your Jeep SUV this way.
